Newcastle United are reportedly close to signing FC Twente s Ivorian midfielder Cheick Tiote. According to the Daily Mail, the Magpies have reportedly offered Twente £3.5m for the services of Tiote, who has been capped eight times by his country.
Tiote first played continental football with Belgian club Anderlecht and was with them till 2008, when he joined Twente. Prior to moving to Twente, he also had a loan spell with Roda JC.
Tiote was part of Twente s Eredivisie winning 09/10 squad.
Newcastle have only made three signings this summer- James Perch, Dan Gosling and Sol Campbell, two of whom have arrived on Tyneside on a free transfer.
